Library News

The Library Committee meets on the fourth Monday of every month (excluding July and August) in the Resource Centre.

Our function is to select new books, discard outdated material, and display and maintain the library.
It is intended to provide spiritual reference items to all members of the congregation.

The Library Committee members, invite you to come down to the Resource Centre on the lower level and become acquainted with your church library.

New books are on the library cart in the hall between Linda Wheler’s and John Derksen’s offices and in the Stewart East Hall on Sundays. Please feel free to borrow them. Simply print your name, phone number and date on the book card in the back of the book. Place the card in the silver bag on the side of the cart. We operate on the honour system – please return your selection within three weeks.

Reviews of New Books in Our Church Library

Quiet Strength by Tony Dungy
Football fans, players old and new, here is a book you will enjoy. I did! Coach Tony Dungy of the Indianapolis Colts, Super Bowl Champions, relates his experiences as a coach and player in a compelling manner.
He is a devout Christian and uses appropriate biblical passages to inspire his players and to guide his own life. His strong faith has carried him through several crises in his life: the suicide of his teenaged son and the difficulties experienced while raising an adopted baby boy who could literally feel no pain.
Of current interest is his relationship with Mike Vanderjagt who played on the Colts team and is now a Toronto Argonaut.

The Spirituality of Gardening by Donna Sinclair
Do you ever wonder about the meaning of the word, “spirituality”? The author asks the question and then states the dictionary meaning which says: “Of, from or relating to God; of concerned with or affecting the soul.” She experiences this while attending church, as we do here at Islington. She goes on to tell how she feels connected to God while gardening.
Sinclair speaks of the Garden of Eden, makes other biblical references and refers to Native spirituality. There are stories of her own gardens in the different homes in which she has lived, of her father’s garden, and of her husband’s interest in composting.
As a picture book – the photographs of flowers and gardens are gorgeous. Inspiring poems about gardening are found throughout the pages.
One reviewer writes, “The stories, images and gardening experiences offer a rich harvest of hope. Donna Sinclair has given us a beautiful and wise book.”
You may borrow it from our Church Library.
