Don Banks Music Award

Islington United Church and its music staff are delighted to announce the inauguration of The Don Banks Music Award. The purpose of this award is to recognize and encourage young musicians, and has been established by Don Banks to unite two of his passions – the love of music and the nurture of young people.

ELIGIBILITY

These awards are open to candidates age 25 or younger, who are active in a school music program, and/or who perform in a musical group, and/or who study privately.

HOW TO APPLY

• Candidates must complete an application form, which can be downloaded here. (pdf file opens in a new window)
  
  
• Candidates must include a letter of support from their teacher or mentor, and a CD of their
  performance in two pieces of contrasting style.
  
  
• Students are strongly encouraged to provide their own accompanist; however, an IUC
  accompanist is available. There is a fee for an IUC accompanist, payable to the accompanist. A copy of the music the student is to perform should be submitted to the accompanist by March 19, 2011.
  
  
• Applications must be received by mail, postmarked on or before March 1, 2011.

ANNOUNCEMENT and PRESENTATION PROCESS

• A short list of successful candidates will be posted on the church website on March 15, 2011.
  
  
• Short-listed candidates will be invited to perform in a festival at Islington United Church on
  April, 2, 2011. Winners will be announced at the end of the program.
  
  
• On the following day, Sunday, April 3, the winners will perform for the Islington United Church congregation, and Don Banks will present up to four awards of $250 each.
